I just read on the net that cuckoo marans are sex linked. Is it true and if so how do you tell them apart because I just put 6 dozen cuckoo marans eggs in the bator a lil while ago and would like to be able to sex them when they hatch.

They aren't sex-linked in that they hatch in different colors, but as soon as they start feathering out you can tell....the males are much lighter in color than the females.

Ok thanks. This is my first time hatching/having cuckoo marans and I knew I hadnt seen anything in the catalogs that you order chicks from about them being sexlinked either way so I was wanting to get that cleared up.

By feathering out do you mean when their wing feathers start coming in or when they have all there feathers?

The coloring of them is technically and genetically a sex-linked color, but no, . . . You can sex them at hatch though. The males will have larger white spots on the head, the females will have barely a white strip.

When they're more feathered.....what Illia said is also true to a certain extent, but didn't always hold true with my cuckoos. The feathering was a sure thing tho.
