Is it unusual? Or early maturing?

When I went out this evening to take care of my chicks (2 months old) only 3 (2 hens and 1 rooster) of them were in the run to see what goodies I had brought, a 4th one (a hen) came out of the house to investigate, too. I have 6, so when I went in the house to take care of their feed and water the other 2 (a hen and a rooster) were inside on a little perch near one of the boxes. They were nestled up together and stayed that way the entire time I was in the house, usually they would go investigate the goodies, too. It looked kind of like they having a quiet discussion of the romantic kind ;) Is it too young for that behavior yet?? LOL, or are my little kids growing up?? Also, on the same note, at what age (roughly) do I start to look for eggs?

BTW- As you can probably tell, I am very new to chicken tending ;)

I thought like that too. And on some level it might be true. I had 2 chicks (1 hen 1 roo) who stuck around with each other since they were hatched. Slept together ate around each other. They are all grown up now, and the the Roosters favorite hen is still the chick he use to do everything together with.

Chasinglights, that's kind of what these two were doing. All 6 chicks have grown up together, but the weird thing was the hen that was being romanced is the most friendly, and usually is the first to show up for treats ("Berta"- cause she has to know everything!). It was like watching young teenagers being secretive ;) They definitely looked like they were talking about something no one else was supposed to know about ;) LOL

My experience has been very little courtship or Loyalty .. Let me tell you when the roo goes to business it is not sweet and cuddly but thankfully its short .. They sort of just pounce hard grab their necks hard biting feathers and Bang .. Not even wam bam thank you ma'm just shove their head down pin them hard and ya know .. not cuddly .. but on the other side .. they seem to make Friends those they putter around with and are less aggressive fighting over food hang out and walk around with .. but when it comes to love .. I say no Cooth ! and on to the next !

Now you want to see Love .. Look At Ducks .. thats sweet they mate and walk around hearts floating from their eyes stay tight side by side its sort of sweet :)
