Is keeping a rooster inside inhumane

I have been keeping my rooster inside as a pet so my neighbors don't complain. I love him and can't get rid of him. Is is wrong for him to live inside my house?

My friend has 3 house chickens 2 serama hens and 1 silkie hen. Of course they are "bantam" size so handle confinement well. She has had house chickens for many years - various breeds but mostly silkies.
