I have five 13 week old chickens and a pair 7 week old ganders. The chickens (free range) are still on Start n Grow (18% protein) and the geese free range on grass but get a cereal bowl sized portion of Flock Raiser (20% protein) at nighttime. The chickens have their food on a ledge away from the geese because it's medicated feed.
My chickens are getting to the point where I need to switch their food to layer. I have a bag ready for them of Neutrena NatureWise Layer with 16% protein and 3.7-3.9% Calcium. I want the geese and chickens to eat the same food for economy's sake. By the time the chickens are 18 weeks, the geese will be 12. If the geese start eating the layer at 12 weeks, is this too high in calcium?
Or is a better approach switching the chickens to Flock Raiser and giving them extra calcium? I'm hesitant about the 20% protein for adult chickens.
