I gave away a 10 week old polish becuase he ended up a roo. The remaining polish wanders around the yard chirping, almost seems as if she is calling for him. Am I losing my mind? Could a chick be grieving for her friend? She is not alone, there are 2 other chicks with her, yet she still wanders around chirping, poor thing. The other two chicks don't seem to care, it is just the remaining polish girl. She eats and forages well...just very vocal when in the yard. Any thoughts?

Thanks so much!

Was she vocal before the roo left? What are the other kinds of chickens that you have?

I had polish many years ago with my dad's chickens (I think they were leghorns, they were white, with single combs and laid white eggs). The white chickens would pluck the white crown feathers of my little black birds and they ended up bald. The reason I tell this story is to ask if the other chickens are "normal-looking" chickens (not a fancy feather breed) and could they be picking on her and she doesn't have a protector or a fellow victim (before it was two against two but now it's two against one). Is it possible that you can get a couple more polish (depending up on your local laws and the availability of age appropriate chickens)?

Good Luck,
CG
