Is my 12 week-old blue araucana a male or female?

Hi there. I thought my araucana might be a female, but it started to crow this week, each morning at first light. Is it possible that a female would crow like that? I have two of these birds, both hatched at the same time, and this one is much larger than the other (so I am assuming the other is a female, and she has not been crowing!) Grateful for any advice!

Wow, great pictures!

Crowing is a big indicator! Usually roo, but not always. But add it to the much larger size, it means even more likely to be a roo.

A few more weeks and the egg laying ( or not) will be the final test

Thanks so much, everybody. I just love this forum, and all the nice people here!

Hi,

First of all that can't be an Araucana. Araucanas don't have rump feathers.

Judging from the comb, coloration, beak color and confirmation, I'd say you have yourself a nice looking Easter Egger there.

God Bless,

Thanks for your note. I am in New Zealand, and araucanas here do have tail feathers. Cheers.

Yes, was going to say that looked like a UK version.

So neat to see them! I agree, if it sounds like a male...it probably is. But, you didn't say how old they were. Do you happen to know their hatch date?

Yeah sorry. I put it in the title, but it's probably not obvious. 12 weeks, hatched mid October. Thanks!

You have a beautiful bird!

Looks like a roo with the pointed feathers around the rump. Crowing seals that guess.
