Is my 12 week-old blue araucana a male or female?

re the aruacanas in New zeland suposed to have a crest like that ??? I
Looks more like a silkie or polish mix to me unless thats how araucanas are suposed to look from where ur from

Very, Very nice pictures, gorges bird. With the statement that it is so much larger than the other one, but that they are the same age, my guess would be it is a really nice rooster.

If it's crowing then it is most likely a male. I would like to add that I believe it is a lavender or self blue. I don't know which term you call it in N Z.

Yep, Araucanas in the UK are supposed to have crests, beards and tails. There was something else, but I can't quite remember what...

Hmm....I'm used to single and pea combed breeds, but other than the pointy feathers, I would say female. The comb is not as large as I would expect for a 12 week old bird, but the crowing is seen in both males and females. Usually females that have not been around a male for awhile, but I suppose it could happen in pullets too.

Can we see updated photos as it matures!
