I was sold two silkies 'hens' when they were 11 weeks old. They are both still evenly matched size wise and im almost certain that the grey one I have is a hen. However my white silkie has started to develop bigger a bigger comb and wattle than my other silkie. I have also recently introduced two new hens with my silkies and the white silkie has started to chase them around making a horrible noise at them which sounds suspiciously like the beginnings of a crow.

The chicken is 5 months old now and was sold to me as a 'bearded silkie bantam' would be so grateful of some ideas on what sex you think he/she is. Here is a pic I took yesterday

i hope the silkie experts chimes in i am new to silkies but with the slick back poof and the bigger waddles and comb i would say roo but i could be wrong. as for bearded i do not believe it is bearded it does not have the bearded poof under his beak and around his neck area. with bearded silkies you basicly can only really see the beak and the comb expecialy the boys combs

I dont know.. but I have to say he/ she is beautiful.... Im really looking at this breed for my daughter to show... how are you liking them now that you've had them a little while....????

I also am interested in the showgiirls and polish crested.... Id love to hear what you all have found on these breeds?

Looks like some of the girls i've had...

Until it crows or lays an egg, I'd say be patient.

Could be a dominant hen - nothing screams "roo" to me, at 5 months of age you'd see long streamers coming out of the back of the crest - I don't see any.

Body stance isn't very roo-ish, either...

It doesn't have the type of a rooster. I know some hens have pretty big combs and sort or swooped back crests.
