Is my Australorp a pullet or a roo???

Your Australorp pullet may be the size of your Hamburg now but she should eventually dwarf it. Australorps are considered a heavy breed. Hens should mature to 7lbs or so and the roos close to 9 lbs. The Hamburg hens more around 4 lbs.

I vote pullet.

Sorry! I didn't mean to mislead you on the size of my australorp. Six of our pullets are 5 months old and should be laying soon. Of those six, the Hamburg is the smallest. Our black australorp is the next smallest at almost twice the size of our Hamburg, and then the others are easily twice the size of the Hamburg. I was under the impression, however, that the australorp's slightly smaller size was desirable as an egg-layer so as to achieve a good egg-laying-to-feed-consumption ratio. Am I mistaken?

I say pullet also.......

my Astralorp is the friendliest of my bunch......just told my friend the other day
that she is like having a 3rd dog - always under foot and demanding my attention!

And what a snuggler!

Thanks everyone, I think you're probably right and my BA is a pullet - thank goodness! Her name is Daisy and she is definitely a favorite with me and my kids.

And JMPE, your BA is gorgeous!
