Yeah I am a first time chick momma as of Wednesday, so I really don't know what to say. I myself would just let it be for a lil longer and hope someone that has more experience maybe can help. One thing I do know is that once in lockdown you shouldn't open the bator. Good luck to ya and

any progress?

if there was still no progress, i'd have my mister full of warm water and pulling that guy to help him out. that is if there is no progress.

i'd gently start chipping the shell away from the membrane, then tear the membrane being careful to watch for any attachments. by this point, in my short experience, is the yolk is absorbed and the chick is getting exhausted. from my reading, the build up of CO2 in the shell causes a muscle in the neck to twitch, which causes the chick to pip, and the contractions also help pull the yolk into the body.

you just want to take it out and close the incubator back up as quickly as possible, misting to keep the humidity up.

others may not agree, this is what i do and had a 100% hatch on my chicks, and 12 out of 14 turkey chicks (one had died before we saw it, and the other died just before hatch date, did not even pip air cell)

Thanks salty.... In just the last 30 minutes he seems to be working a little harder at it.... There is a nice crack in the shell just below the hole he has... He has been pushing at it alot and I am watching that crack open a little every time he does it.... I think I even heard it crack once... should I give him another hour maybe?
