Roos will be a much lighter color than hens. Almost like a hen is black with white barring, while a roo would be white with black barring.

For sure a girl. We had the same question - one of our BR hens got a huge comb and just looked different. Turned out a she, ended up having to go out and get a roo for the flock. Once we got him, the coloring difference really stood out!
