Hello, my dove is making these strange noises! He seems to cough, and failed to coo. Is he choking? He's acting fine, but it sounds like he's gargling on something. When he laughed he just partially laughed then gargled the rest of the way. He coughs and pants just like a chicken when it eats too much. What's wrong with him? I really need some help!

Feel the dove's crop. Is it firm but yielding or hard and lumpy? It sounds like he may have a crop problem. Is he overweight? Heavy birds get too warm quickly from exertion.

I didn't have time to feel the crop, but he isn't overweight. Now home, he's perfectly fine! Not showing anything bad like I did earlier, at all. He's cooing normally. I'm so lost, I wonder what that was, but anyways thanks so much for the response! I didn't know what I was going to have to do.

Sometimes when my doves are eating, they get so excited they forget to swallow their food fully and will get a lump of impacted food in their throat, the first few times i freaked out and chased them around the cage trying to figure out what was wrong but they always swallowed it after a couple minutes, could that be it?

Oh, I see what you mean. I hope it was just that and nothing else. It might have been just some more food, like you said. I had that happen to a turkey once but he was alright afterward. I really appreciate the replies and thanks! He's much better now. :)
