It seems to be hen color from looking at feathersite but I don't know if they all start out that color or not?

Forgot to say it is 7 weeks.

At 7 weeks, it's probably a cockerel. The large comb is the indicator. If it were a pullet, it would be much smaller. All blues are the same color until the males begin to get in their hackle and saddle feathers.

Thanks! That was what I didn't know! Those blue boys are beautiful when they feather out! I won't get any dark eggs though since this is my only Marans out of 6 eggs. Shipped eggs from Texas though so I am glad to get just the one anyway. At first I thought it was a boy but the comb isn't growing as fast as on my other little guy of unknown breed from another breeder.

I am raising some cuckoo marans, and the cockerel had a much more pronounced comb at 7 weeks. I'm assuming the blues grow rapidly and are very large at a young age, like the cuckoos. This bird looks like a pullet to me.

i have cuckoo marans.. and i love them.. but my favorite chicken color is blue.. i have blue andelusians.. and blue cochins... i want to get some blue OEGB and/or blue turkeys..
