i have no idea ive never done BR's before for exhibition just for eggs at the grandparents! the other pullet looks just like her and what should a 3 1/2 month old pullet weigh???

Hello..
I would have to agree with the judge in saying that the barring is smudged..
The barring on a Barred Rock should nice and clean.. I posted a picture of a nice Barred Rock and you can see it has nice tight and clean barring..
(This is not my bird)

You'd almost have to start with better stock, IMO. It's hard to really improve hatchery BRs, though, my own flock from hatchery beginnings (some a generation or two away from there) has produced an almost show quality bird a couple times. If I really want to improve the barring, I would get some eggs from a breeder of high quality BRs. Your pretty girl looks like a fairly average hatchery quality BR, at least from that picture.

i got them from a person locally i do believe she said she hatched them but i could be wrong ive only had them since may.....but i think she hatched them but they might be hatchery??? idk i bought them from her at her farm and she is totally against hatcheries how she talked im not tho i bought some of my ducks from one trying to get started...ill try to get in touch with her and see where they came from i thought they were ok!! i guess i was wrong this girl got a second in the class i was happy she did alot better than alot of the rocks there but im in 4H in a small town tho!! lol
