With the exception of the two previous rainy days, my chicks have been spending most of the day outside, and I bring them in at night. I'm a stay at home mommy so I'm always going in and out to check up on them. I usually take them out right away in the mornings. Well today I had a Dr Appt. and I didn't feel safe leaving them outside alone for that long. I decided to leave them in their brooder until I got home. I forgot to close the utility room door before I left so we came home and found that our girls had escaped and gave themselves the grand tour of our house. : / I immediately scooped them up and put them out. I noticed one of my chicks had a hair sticking out of their beaks. I vacuum often but my husband, and step daughter have long, thick hair and no matter how much I vacuum it's still everywhere. Anyway I tried to gently pull the hair out but it either hurt her or she REALLY didn't like the feeling, and I wouldn't blame her. I know its bugging her because she keeps shaking her head and shrieking. Is she going to be ok? Will she eventually swallow, and pass it? Should I try and clip the part that is sticking out of her beak off so it wont bother her?

Pull it out gently and slowly. She should not swallow the hair, as it could cause major problems. She may shake her head oddly like it tickles when you pull it out, but it will help her. Mine try to do that alllll the time when they are out of the brooder.

I just went out to try and the hair is gone. : / Guess it's just a wait and see game now. Hopefully she'll be alright.
