Hello! I had two chickens and one of my chickens jumped over our fence and into the yard behind us and their dog attacked and sadly killed my chicken. Now I only have one chicken and I’m wondering if she will be ok living alone. We actually cut my chickens wings yesterday in hopes they wouldn’t be able to get over the fences but I guess she found a way to get over. She was around 7-8 months old and I heard that the wing clipping doesn’t work as well on younger hens compared to older hens. Is this true?

I’m just mostly concerned about my chicken being alone now. She has the whole yard to herself besides from my dogs and they all get along really well.

I’m sorry. :hugs

My opinion is to Maybe check Craig’s list or your state thread to find her a buddy. Even though you have a dog she gets along with they do get lonely because they are flock animals. Also being just a single chicken makes her more prone to a predator.
And depending on where you live, having multiple chickens helps keep them warm on the roost in winter because they cuddle up next to each other.

I recommend even getting more than one other chicken. That way if one dies or flies out, there will still be a buddy for the chicken. I also suggest getting a coop for your birds and placing it in your yard. That way, you can let them out to freely run around your yard when you are nearby and can watch them, and you can put them in their coop if you are out of town or something. Best of luck!:thumbsup

So sorry for your loss - .. I spotted your post immediately because I'm in the exact situation you are and came on here looking for answers on what I should do . She's been alone for 2 days now and Ive worried nonstop about my girl being sad and lonely. Since her best friend is gone she stands at my sliding glass doors all day and watches my dogs.. or maybe she's watching tv I'm not sure which one lol !! I noticed earlier this morning that she has started plucking her feathers.. my heart is broken for her .. rather then me start another post to ask the same question I'm just going to follow yours!

I’m sorry for your loss.:hugs
This sound exactly like my chicken! I’m wondering if she is starting to pluck her own feathers too because today I noticed her beak was red. Not sure if it’s blood from her plucking herself.
