is my coop design ok?

Sounds like ya'all are getting one the right track. Your honey is a wise man to plan for expansion! Chickens are highly addictive and as they are legal, most of us just embrace the addiction lol.

Lol, yeah except my husband's plan for expansion is probably for meat hens (but then again, he's trying to get people to eat healthier and more organic so he may want to sell the eggs). I eat chicken but I think I'd have a hard time eating one I knew lol. I am one of those people who love animals and personalize them BIG time lol. I'll be the one with the addiction :)

With the revised measurements, you might plan on a max of 10-12 birds. If you can swing it at all, plan to be able to house 2 separate groups. Your husbands plans to have meat birds almost requires it. I wish I had 2 or 3 separate pens so that I could have more flexibility to have chickens of different ages or different feed requirements.

We've made one final adjustment. The coop will be 5'x10' so it can stretch completely along the back wall of the coop and will have 3 roosts inside and nesting boxes along the back. Underneath the coop will be a good sized dusting box though I'm not sure if it'll be the whole area underneath yet or just half. That leaves a 10'x10' roofed run in front of the coop where we'll be using the deep litter method with leaves and pine needles. There will be a hanging waterer and hanging feeder out there as well. I don't think we're going to end up doing the meat chickens but if we eventually decide to, we have room to build a separate coop.
