I'm convinced ducks are completely lacking in spatial awareness and object permanence. They'll have JUST bent down to drink from a bowl, stand up, and then trip all over themselves walking straight ahead like nothing is in front of/below them.

Seriously! I put out a bowl, about 4” x 4” of grower grit out for them, in a huge yard, and they always, read: ALWAYS, find a way to run right through the bowl spilling their grit.
