I just bought a goat today. I noticed that this nanny’s ribs and hips were very prominent I read online that is could be sunken sides from pregnancy or it could be worms. Any opinions?

Careful, if she's hunching it could be Vitamin B12 deficiency. Once they're hunched it's an emergency to get them a shot of the B12. Take her to a vet. Looks pretty old, stomach is not large, and udders aren't huge so I'd rule out pregnancy.

This goat is very emaciated. She needs to be wormed and some thiamine (B12) would be a good idea. Also a shot of CD/T to prevent enterotoxemia. She needs groceries but if you feed her grain start with very small amounts. If she doesn't start to pick up in a couple of weeks even after getting good feed Johnes might be something to check for. In fact, if you take her to the vet, have him/her take a blood sample and have it tested for Johnes now.

I forgot to mention that she needs to be treated for lice. If it were me, I would put her in a pen away from the other goats until the results of a Johnes test come back. Johnes is spread through the manure.

Was this a big purchase or more of a surrender? I am wondering about the honesty on the sellers end of this transaction. This poor girl may have been on the ill side and shouldn’t have been sold.
