Well, my beautiful Splash Ameracuana, Daisy, started crowing at about 18/19 weeks old. Weird, I thought. She’s supposed to be, well, a she. I looked it up and learned hens can and do crow, but it’s rare. While I think she could possibly be trying to assert her dominance, which is one reason a hen may crow, I’m leaning more towards her actually being a he given “her” height and feathering, which is starting to look more rooster-like. Also, she is part of a young flock raised with older girls and my 3 y.o. Buff Orpington, Jane, has been top hen for a couple of years now. I don’t think she would try to challenge Jane by crowing. But maybe? What are your thoughts based on pics? She/he is currently 21 weeks old.
