Is my Hen Broody

Not a silly question at all. It is the type of clucking that a hen does when she is sitting on a clutch of eggs, or she has babies to care for. She usually will fluff up her feathers and hold her wings out to her sides a bit. She is not only talking to her babies, but she is signaling to the other chickens that she is not to be messed with because she either has babies, or is about to have babies. The rooster will not attempt to breed her when she is talking in such a manner.
Also, all I have to tell my dogs is "clucky hen", and they will give her wide birth, so as not to get flogged by an angry mother.
Once you hear that particular clucking sound you will know exactly what it means. It's when you will start calling her mother.
