I'm not sure if my Hen is broody or not. Over the last two days she's been spending most of the morning in the nest and on the eggs. But around 2pm ish she gets off the nest and doesn't' return. When she is sitting on the nest she is pretty flat and she will peck my hand when I tried to move her but she didn't do the "broody growl." However she is doing a screeching noise when the other hens go to lay an egg that I haven't heard before. She is a Easter egger/cochin mix. The Cochin was the father. She has also been doing a weird clucking and puffing of her feathers when she's off the nest for the day. Please watch the video and let me know.

Yes she seems broody to me that's the way my broody hens act but they sit on the nest all day and only get off to eat and drink. Maybe a day or two she will decide to go broody!

Yes her first time and mine too. I don't even think she's year old. We got her right when she started laying. What should I do to encourage her to go broody and stay on eggs. I'd love to naturally hatch some.

Separate her from the other hens if you can so they don't bother her when she is setting. I don't always separate the broody, only if I let the hen raise the chicks i will put her in a little pen.

I'm going with broody. My EE goes broody often. It's annoying. She is the only one out of my six hens.

I can see how it would be annoying but thats like getting mad at a women for menstrating and PMSing. They cant help it and you have to deal with it.

Hopefully my Hen will stop 'practicing' and go full broody. I want to witness chicks rasied natually.

I love having a momma running around the yard with little chicks. Every year I usually get a surprise from my ducks or chickens that lay somewhere that I can't find and then the hen goes missing.
Last year I thought a fox or something got one of my ducks then about a month later I saw a momma duck with 13 babies following her.
