Understood. I was just immediatly worried when she got off the nest with out laying. I'm like a worried parent!

I totally understand your alarm! Believe me, I've had my freak out moments raising my first flock! It's good to ask questions when they come up, that's how we learn to be better chicken parents!

Having got through the initial egg laying phase, I'm much more confident and relaxed and learned to trust in the hens that they know what they are doing.

I think the best thing you can do is to watch your flock and the individual hens (if you don't have a huge amount of them) because you'll gain confidence to spot when something doesn't look right. That should always raise a red flag and then start investigating.
