Is my rooster a bad lay?

I have a Polish Crested rooster who recently had begun attempting to mate with our hens. I say attempt, because the vast majority of copulations are unsuccessful, even if the hen had the squat response and he manages to mount. It seems like he can’t keep his balance very well and usually “misses the target” when he goes for the cloaca bump. He is extremely persistent and the hens done seem to like him much. Is he inexperienced, or is it possible he’s just bad at sex?

All species, human or not, have gone through something like that. LOL
He is just in the learning stages, give the boy a chance. :lau

Still pretty young - about 6 months. he’s been crowing for a couple months and was the first Roo to start crowing and mating. He’s been persistently trying to mate for over a week now.
He is a cockerel at this age, not a rooster. He should get the hang of it after a bit. Good luck.

Definitely inexperienced. Give him time. The first month or so is always a mess XD. That's good that the girls are squatting for him!

It's normal for unsuccessful attempts. My SFH roosters is going thru the same thing right now. But I can see both of them getting better at it each day. There 21 weeks old.
