I'm thinking this may be a male. It's my first Wyandotte, but the comb is looking rather red. S/he is 3 weeks old. Is it too early to tell? Please tell me it could still be female.
Thanks for any input, I've never had a rose combed chicken before, so I don't know how they develop. I'll post more pictures as s/he get bigger of course.
And if any of my little babies turns out to be male, I'll be giving them away, but hopefully that won't happen......I'd love to have a rooster around, but they aren't allowed 'round here.
I think that wyandottes are very difficult to tell from the comb/waddles. I got 5 last year and was positive i had 4 boys 1 girl for a very long time........it turned out i only had 1 boy and 4 girls. I cant believe how hard it was to tell. I have 9- 6 week olds right now and keep telling myself to just enjoy them and figure it out later
I say pullet. My girls' combs were very similar at that age. If you'd like, I'll go try to take some decent pics of my 8 week old girls--they're sl, gl, and blr.
This has eased my mind a little, thanks for posting! I have a SLW that is supposed to be a pullet but have been worried because it has a pinkish comb at a young age. Maybe she is not a he after all!! I will keep my fingers crossed.
