Is one of these Buff's a boy?

Both pullets. I prefer the solid, golden buff color of the first.

Age does make a difference but at 6 months I think it's safe to say they are pullets

6 month old roos will have saddle and hackle feathers by now and be more than likely crowing, you will get eggs from these two soon.

Pullets. You should be getting eggs soon. I got my first egg from my buff at 18 weeks old. Here is a picture of mine at about 16 weeks old.
