IS PINE TAR SAFE FOR CHICKS?

I was recommended by the feed store to use pine tar instead of Blue Kote because it has the benefit of tasting nasty. I'm afraid if I use Blue Kote even though the blood won't be seen that she will still be pecked at in that area because it looks strange w/ her feathers missing. Does anyone know if pine tar for horses is safe for chicks?

Hmmmm. That's an excellent question! Has anyone else used pine tar on their poultry? Inquiring minds want to know!
