Is roosting necessary?

How old are they? I have 20 BSLs that are 8 weeks and some of them roost and some of them don’t. When they are small, they feel mor comfortable huddled together, which is easier to do in the ground than on a roost. They will probably roost regularly and on their own as they mature and feel more comfortable “out in the open.”

3 are 26 weeks and 3 are 20 weeks. I tried last night putting them on and they couldn’t move fast enough off to pig pile on the floor . I picked up more from their breeder today, she said her silkies just love to huddle and she doesn’t bother trying to get them to roost. Poop really is the biggest issue.
