Is Rose Comb Dominate?

Yes, rose comb is dominant over single comb. However, some rose combed birds are heterozygous rose comb, heterozygous single comb (especially true of hatchery stock). So if bred to a homozygous single comb bird, half of the chicks would be rose combed, and half would be single combed.

But if the bird is homozygous for rose comb, then all of the chicks would be rose combed.

Make sense?

Let me know if I need to clarify anything...

That would explain my rooster "Red", hen was our Gold Laced Wyandotte & Roo was the Jersey Giant. Red has the size of the JG but a very nice coloring pattern from the hen and a great rose comb

You're gettin a good hold on understanding genetics and how the dominant genes and such work now .

And so roocrazy, yes the sexlinked offspring ( assuming the rosecombed breed used was homozygous for rose combs ( has two copies), would be visually rose combed since rose combs are dominant to single combs, but would be carrying one copy of rose and one copy of single.

This is one of the factors that disproves the misconception that the Cinnamon Queens like the ones Cackle sales are from NH roos on SLW hens, if they were they would have rose combs, and also the white tails of the Cin Queens is from Dom White and neither the NHs or the SLWs carry Dom White.

So in other words hatcherys lie????

Oh Yes, Hatcheries lie about a lot of things, like their EEs being Ameraucanas or Araucanas. Like their Phoenix being a Japanese breed that can get tails up to 25ft long ( Phoenix are a European breed and MAY get up to 6 ft in the BEST conditions, Onagadori are the Japanese breed that can get 25 ft long tails.) an several other things.

But for what you are talking about when, hatcheries say they are using RIWs in their crosses, thats really the only lie becuase they are using single combed birds who I believe should be called Production Whites becuse they are basically a White version of the Production Reds as far as body type, egg color, rate of laying and all that. But real RIWs are the ones that come in Rose Combs only and this isnt what is being used by the Hatcheries, they are using the Single Combed production strain of "RIWs"

And I havent seen a hatchery advertize that they're Sexlinks are from using Silver Laced Wyandottes, thats just false information that I have seen on the internet but I dont know who came up with that idea.
