the edge of insanity
Ok, 6 week old EE. Last night, "She" became a challenger as I was trying to catch her and she may have even pecked me a few times softely.. (I don't remember - a mix between mommy brain & shock!) She acted the same as I let all the chicks out of the house this morning.. only with another chicken (I hesitate to call them hens because I really think that I have quite a few roosters in my "pullets only" group). Anyway.. here are some pictures! They are all of the same bird.

Thanks!!! I know, until the rooster crows, probably nothing is final.. but.... any opinions?

I see quite a bit of red in the comb in the first picture. That to me is pointing towards cockerel, but the next two pics have thrown me off because that red color that I see in the first picture isn't there in those ones.

What color is the chicks comb?

Thanks! Does activity change the color of combs? Where my dd is holding "her," it was after catching her and she didn't really want to be caught. (where the comb appears redder)

I'm not sure if it makes any difference or not! That is an interesting thought though.

If her comb isn't generally red, then I'm agreeing with everyone else with her being a pullet. It was just the color in the first picture that was throwing me off.

Here is a picture of her a week ago (5 weeks about). Thanks!

I'm guessing she is just one of the hens who is high on the pecking order.. I guess time will tell!
