Is she a rhode island red or something else?

I ordered some RIW's to come with some other chicks in a few weeks. I've since read that they might be crosses, at best, since most hatcheries won't have pure stock, so I'm not sure what they will look like.

That's not necessarily true. They won't be show quality, but them being poor or awful quality doesn't mean they are mutts

If you're talking about their "Americanas"/Araucanas/Ameraucanans then yes, those ARE mutts.

I ordered my chickens off an order form a friend gave me from a local feed store, I didn't know much about breeds or standards. Luckily we aren't looking for show birds, just good birds for eggs!

I would be more than happy to get some show birds or try breeding at some point if my daughter wanted to do 4H. I grew up around cows and had a horse as a teenager, so I've done the show stuff too. I enjoy working with animals, so I'm hoping she will as well with the chickens around.

Notice how on your hen, the outside of every feather is laced with a thick black line? (Barnevelder, Dark coronish color)

Now, look at the OP's hen. Her feathers are oulined in a thin stripe of brown. (Patridge color)
