I thought she was an Australorp - she's all black, with the greenish/purply iridescent sheen on her feathers. But she lays white eggs. Whazzup? White-earlobe syndrome?

Wow! I thought she was pretty skinny compared to the Australorp pics I'd seen. Any guesses as to breed?

Anyone? Anyone?

Edited: she is not very friendly - doesn't like to be touched - flighty, and she doesn't lay every day.

My guess is she is a Minorca. I have two roos but no hens so it IS just a guess. My roos are smaller and thinner than other roos here but with huge combs and white earlobes. I will try to get a pic of them tomorrow and post it here for you.

Dassss right. A-lorps lay brown eggs.

Black with beetling (the green sheen) is not confined to A-lorps, although I'm not good at knowing every breed known to man.
Someone who is will be along shortly.....

The difference between Ancona and Black leghorn is the leghorn is noisier and lays more eggs. So is she hard working and noisy or does she take a day off here and there and remain more quiet?

Thanks bloomnB - this hen is the last survivor of my first flock-o-three, and she's going away this week to live in the country with a new flock. It will be nice to be able to tell her new minions what kind of cluck she is (or at least, isn't!).
