is she broody again!?!? dang...

Here is my pullet (7mos) Hope sitting on 2 golf balls
this may make sense. she may be a silkie descendant
seems she goes broody then leaves

my question is
Is she actually broody? I'll put her in a broody hatch box if necessary...

turns out she was just laying... so weird? why did she put the egg under her tummy if she was just laying? very unusual. when i put her in the broody box, she got out and did not set. well i guess ill wait for my silkies to go broody. when does that happen?

I have a hen that does that! She even makes the cooing noise that they make when they're broody... and i go back an hour later and she's laid an egg! I'm not sure why they do it, but it might be the warmer weather and spring that is making them act weird. And she also might be getting ready to go broody. But I'm not sure.

Ihave some that do this, too. It reminds me of little kids playing with a doll. They want to be the mama..... until they get tired of it.

Today did same things but more. She ruffled up her feathers, rolled golf balls under tummy, and her tails were spread and her neck was puffed up. Another pullet came in the box and Hope made the warning noise, then stood up and drooped her wings (she looked huge) and I removed the other pullet for possible broody's sake. You're so right. she's gearing up. i'll stop collecting her eggos and maybe add some in storage to speed it up. Also she makes a cooing. but its a bit softer than the ones the intense brooders have. maybe its cause she's a pullet, or because she's so trained and obedient and hand-raised that she doesnt like to yell at me... but she did do a more intense cooing at the leghorn intruder.

PULLET UPDATE: pulled some of her eggs (prob from the past few days) out of the fridge and one of my BR eggs and let her roll em under. i bet shes just coming on full broodiness

just got off nest. she might not be gearing up. she does this somewhat often, and turns out she just laid. but she acted and looked broody. so confused. if she's gearing up, will she lay?

All the chickens I've ever owned do this. It's great b/c it helps train them where to lay: all ya need is a wooden egg and they're off and running!

you know they are broody, when they swell up to twice their size when you get close to the nest, and make a funny cluck. and give you the stink eye. Mine are always willing to take your arm off at the elbo too. She looked too nice to be broody
