One of our hens is not acting right today. Rather than foraging with her sisters she's just standing. She's staying close to the coop and when you watch her back end it looks like she's trying to push something out. This is the first time we have any issues with our hens who are now over a year old, so pardon my ignorance.

Is it warm bath time?

Oh, and I did feel around her belly and she is not squishy.

I would if she were mine give her a warm bath and see if that helps relax her muscles. if she is egg bound people have had great success with giving a human calcium pill. the calcium stimulates them to lay. while giving her a bath you can examine her vent carefully to see if you can feel the egg. you can also use ky jelly to help her pass the egg. don't use an oil that can go rancid or it can cause infection. keep us posted on how she's doing. I would defiantly try the calcium pill if she is egg bound. I wish you the best of luck for you and your hen. God bless.

Well I gave her a warm bath, which she loved, and within minutes of drying her off and getting her settled she pushed out a good amount of clear gunk. I cannot feel an egg though. She's sleeping now but did a little preening...more movement than she's made all day!

I'm going to let her rest and dry off then take back outside to see how she behaves.
