I think it's still a bit early, she's about 18 weeks old at this point..... This morning I couldn't find her, usually my 6 ladies hang out together, and I happened to look in the "nesting box" I have next to the main coop, and there she was. She got startled and ran, and then her and the "head hen" (who is also still a pullet but seems to be head honcho) started singing to each other and ran into the coop, then Squirrely (possible layer) ran back into the box and Big Red (head honcho) ran back to the flock..... Now Squirrely is just hanging out in the box quietly, doesn't seem to be in any distress, but I am wondering if maybe she's going broody? Any ideas? I am new at this so I really don't know what to look for lol!

I'm so excited!!!! I want to give her space, the leghorns aren't really keen on people, they aren't mean, just aren't fans of the featherless freaks that bring food, lol..... But I have been waiting since March for some eggs!!!! This is just exciting!!!!!!!!!

I need someone to explain to my husband that as long as the egg isn't dirty, we don't have to wash it...... Or maybe I just need to give up and wash them and store them in the fridge so he feels better lol

:weeCongratulations!!

Research a little and show him documented studies. That's how I convinced my guy.
I was running out the door when I took the egg to him, lol, and he told my 4yo son that we have to wash them so we don't get sick, and I told him to look it up, I'd send him some sites to read, but we don't HAVE to wash them, and what I read yesterday on a blog (not scientific, I know!!!) was that washing the bloom off will allow the salmonella to get in, as long as it's a clean egg, the bloom will keep it safe. I'll have to get some more scientific research done for him, lol
