Is she going to start laying???

Congrats on the egg! My husband washes a lot more eggs than I do and whenever I give eggs to a friend always makes a comment asking if I washed the eggs in front of the friend. I just want to smack him or tape his mouth shut. I pretty much only ever wash duck eggs because they often have mud caked on them. Even then, I don't wash it until right before I crack it in the pan. That is a good compromise actually. Perhaps your husband can be convinced that if you wash them it should be right before you cook them, also to crack them in a separate bowl first instead of right in the pan just in case you get a bad egg. I'm not that worried and don't always do these things, but they are things my husband can do to make him feel safer about eating them. Also I make sure I keep them rotated so that I'm eating the oldest eggs first and don't end up with any sitting for too long.

He told me he wants to wash them with bleach water and I just wanted to scream! If I can just get him to rinse them with warm water, that'd be a good enough compromise for me! Lol.

It's ok. Bleach is actually really safe and probably the best thing to use in a kitchen in general. When I worked at a restaurant all cutting boards that were used for raw meat were bleached. When I worked in a pet shop all animal feed and water bowls were bleached. Bleach completely dissipates when heated and/or dried and does not leave a residue behind. Not much is needed either. This is from the USDA website about washing eggs.

"To destroy bacteria that may be present on the surface of the egg, wash the egg in hot water and then rinse in a solution of 1 teaspoon liquid chlorine bleach per half cup of water."

I can't convince my husband that they don't need to be washed either. We compromise by rinsing in warm water and storing in the fridge, unless I am planning to use them that day, then they don't get washed unless they have something visible on them.

I keep eggs in a basket that hangs on the wall near my backdoor for 6 weeks at time unwashed. Just give a quick hand scrub under warm water before I crack. Haven't ever been sick.
