Is she/he okay?

Okay so I have 10 chicks that are all almost 2/3 weeks old…. Um one of my little lavender orpingtons wings/feathers just don’t look right…. She eats, drinks, runs, flaps, and acts totally normal. They are currently in my living room/dining room area so I see them all the time, except at night when they tuck under the heat plate, but no one seems to be picking on her….. does she look okay? Am I over thinking? The first 2 are the sweet baby I’m worried about. The last is her sister… who looks “normal”…

Chick down can look pretty scraggly on some chicks. It can be a bit thinner than usual or food may have gotten on the down or it can just be how the feathers are pushing through the down. It's very temporary, and not cause for concern.

I have had chicks wings look like that-in fact one was in my current batch of Lavender Orpingtons. Unless she injured herself somehow she is most likely just fine.

I don't know if Orpingtons are slow-feathering or not, but my Black Langshan boys were slow-feather birds and they looked pretty ratty as they outgrew their down but didn't have feathers yet.

Man, I hope so. She’s just looking worse. The orange coloring is due to their food. I gave them some wet food and they were really excited and literally throwing it….

Lavender Orpingtons carry a gene known as a shredder gene. The feathers sometimes look a little separated. It doesn’t affect the bird. Here’s a picture.
That, in combination with their chick down, can make them look pretty scraggly.

Okay good to know! Thank you, no one so far seems to be messing with her, but I was thinking maybe I should get something in case they start?

No problem!

I‘ve never had a problem with the others picking on them in particular,
but it couldn’t hurt!
