I have a SLW who is 18 wks old and a Red bantam frizz roo. He's the only roo. w/19 girls. Anyhow he's been after the girls for a while. Well anyhow he's been after the SLW (standard) to do the nasty and yesterday and today I noticed she's letting him. If you followed my post you know I got low classed hens. (just kidding folks). Can he father her chicks and Lord have mercy what will their chicks look like? That is if I hatch any of them. Is she ready to lay eggs cause she's letting him? Right in front of all the other girls too. Good Lord have mercy. Where can I get chickens that aren't so low classed. Maybe I should put up a tent or something? It really embarrasses me but they don't seem to care. I think maybe I should probably put a radio in the coop and set it for a Christian station. What if I have the pastor and his wife over? Good garden o' peas! Clearly these are heathen chickens.

ohhhh boy!

I dont see any harm in it.... I dont know about the egg laying part. At 18 weeks she should be close to laying. Heck, shes young. Let her have her fun, when shes an old hen she'll think twice.... lol

Well now I've got a austrorp that when I reached down to touch her she squats. Thsi is unusual cause she done't let me touch her cept now. All my girls are 18-19 wks. Some breeds don't have as red as some.
Anybody. I'm outa eggs. should I buy some or are they gonna give me some?

hey rancher hick,
this is Buffy, I too am wondering about the hens letting the roo do his thing, does that mean she is getting ready to lay? She is about 18 wks., she is black sex link, her comb and wattles are redder than they were. But most of all, she used to squawk[spelling?] when he would try to climb on her but now she just lets him.
oh, and the embarrassed part, I know where you're coming from, my boys were ready to "whup up on that ol' rooster" for doing Pretty Girl like that. I told my husband he was going to have to explain a little!

I would probably buy a few eggs but not many. She is almost ready to give you some :)but they will be very small at first. And...they know what they are doing

You may find eggs anywhere at first -- I think they surprise themselves on the first egg.
