I've got a 15 wk old Dk Brahma chick, Frosty. When I went out to the coop to let everyone out this morning, she just stayed against the wall, kind of in a ball but just laying there. I went over and picked her up to check her out and instead of protesting, as they usually do, she just looked at me and let me hold her. I felt all over her, legs, wings, and no protests so I put her down and went about feeding the rest of the flock. She got up and kind of hobbled/wobbled over to the feeder and ate something, but she still didn't loook right. She's kind of hunched down and won't stand up straight. She did move around some more, but still hobbling/wobbling. I picked her back up and checked her out some more and still didn't find anything that was causing her discomfort. So I put her in solitary (24x30 rabbit cage w/small wire holes) and left her in the run with the others in the shade. I gave her some yogurt and put some apple cider vinegar in her water. She ate and drank it then went and layed down in the corner. I've checked on her several times and not much change. She is standing some, but still not straight up and kind of leaning on one foot more than the other
. I have no clue what could have happened to her, I just know she isn't right. Anybody got some sage words of wisdom? I could sure use some right about now... Thanks.
It is possible she hurt a leg. If so, sounds like what you are doing is about all you can do. I had a young pullet fly into the coop ramp and hobble around for a bit. But it got better after a few days. I would think the fact the bird can move around at all is a good sign.
Well, I checked on her about an hour ago, and she was standing more upright than she was. But she was in the sun and panting so I moved her to a shady spot and she went back to laying down, this time more on her side. I brought her some more yogurt, which she ate without hesitation but still laying down. I went back to the house for a while and when I looked through the binoculars she was standing again, this time to eat some food and drinking water. After a short time she went back to laying down. I think I will leave her in solitary (the cage) but put her in the coop with everyone tonight and see what is what in the morning. I am not freaking out worried at the monent, but am concerned and am still wondering if whe is sick or hurt herself somehow. Any ideas?
