Back in February, I purchased 6 ducklings from Ideal Poultry Hatchery in Texas. In my order, I asked for a Fawn and White Runner Duck. When she was little it was always hard to tell the difference between her, and my buff duckling, which came in the same order.

Now that she is fully grown, she does not resemble anything of a female fawn and white runner. She is short, a little shorter than my PEKIN! All of her feathers are tan/apricot colored, and she doesn't always walk with the wine bottle posture. I love her to bits either way..., but i am just curious as to why she is like this!!! Thanks.

This her the day she came in the mail. She is the shortest one in the front right side of the photo.

Weird, even for a duckling from a hatchery. Doesn't seem to have the right bill either for a runner. This is Dave Holderread's, not mine, although our stock was from Dave. I can't find any pictures of ours on this computer.

My guess is it's either a cross or another breed of duck all together.

I am guessing she is a runner buff cross. I have both runners and buffs, and she seems a little more upright than the buffs, her bill is the same shape as my buffs. Her shoulders are more slender like runners. Since buffs were derived from runners, cayugas, aylesburies or pekins depending on the source of information, and rouens, she may just be a slender slightly upright buff.

I was thinking she may be a cross also. When she is running, she stands straight, but like i said, she doesn't walk like one. I guess anything can happen, even in a hatchery!

its because she is from a hatchery and the quality is very much so lost from large flock breeding and selecting only the best of the best to gain proper stance.
