Is spruce safe for chickens/chicks?

I just want to know if I can use spruce wood shavings for my chicks, age 9 day and 5 weeks 5 days.

They may eat a bit to try it out. Provide grit if you haven't already done so to help them break it down if they do eat some.

Seasoned wood, yes. Green wood may have a lot more tannin
