Is the Delaware Gene Dominant?

I really like the look of the Delaware Pattern (mostly white with black trim).
I heard the trait was Dominant.

So If I got a Delaware marked roo, would he make Delaware marked chicks, with these EE hens (ignore the cuckoo marans in photo ~ I'm talking about the ones with the red heads and brownish black bodies)

I don't need perfect Delaware markings, just want a white bird with colored trim in the Delaware areas.

By the way, anyone know what the color of my EEs is called? Partridge? Wild type? and what genes make that color?

Does anyone have a Delaware marked EE roo?

Thanks for your time,

Joycelyn, I think you are confusing a colour with a breed. The Delaware breed is a barred silver columbian colour. The colour is a combination of genes & would not usually be expected to show on a first cross to a black barred bird.
On a non extended black bird columbian will restrict the black & silver is incompletely dominant over sex linked gold.

You might find it useful to have a go with Henk's Kip Calculator. Try the various crosses & see the results.

In order to get exactly the same pattern as the delaware you'd need to introduce the barring gene as well as columbian & silver.

Most often it would be difficult to give a precise name to the colour of EEs. If you got a hatchery delaware & put it onto your EEs you would probably get something approaching the effect you want, in the pullet offspring, but the males would also be carrying a gold gene & would have brassy hackles.

Hi! You might try a Lakenvelder roo over your EE hens. It wouldn't be 'columbian' exactly, but you can get the similar coloring. I'll try to get pics of some of my old Lak x EE cross boys.
I'll have to look through my notes to see exactly what I crossed though.
Here's one (he's molting):

Blue Columbian, maybe?
And another darker blue:

This one is a little different sib, but he's a nice boy and he has a beard:

I just hatched our first two Delaware/Partridge Rock chicks (omg cute).

They came out yellow with the partridge/chipmunk racing stripes and eye-liner.

According to the calculator they'll be a barred and Columbian and partridged. The Co will limit any expression of the black on a partridge to neck hackles, tail and wing primaries. But the Co should not limit the body color to white but barred on partridge - messing everything up - lol. I had to leave the broody a few eggs and these two weirdos hatched last night.

Pics in when momma comes out of the next.

Hi! It's been a while, but if I remember correctly, most of the 2nd generation girls were colored like that --- mostly white body / black head and tail. I sold all the girls because I was frustrated the combs weren't coming out 'right' and wanted the space for another project (it's funny, all three of those boys know what it feels like to be 'put upside down in the cone' and then turned back out again. They are still here because I want to take up that project again sometime and just nice boys).

I don't know if you can get white bodies from your brown girls, though.
Maybe someone that knows Lakenvelders knows if you could. I'm more a trial and error breeder and really don't know the genetics behind it.
