I know that the chicks start in the brooder at about 95 degrees for the first week then lower the temp 5 degrees every week, till about70 degrees at 6 weeks.

After that, then what?

What is the general rule of thumb after that? If there is a chart or some guide somewhere, can someone kindly direct me to it?

As a new momma, I just want to know what is roughly appropriate temps for their ages until they are full grown.....

Thanks for any help you can give me

After the chicks are fully feathered (usually around 6 weeks old) it is safe to put them outdoors. Especially when the weather is nice.

I live in upstate NY, and today, (Mother's Day) it is snowing! The temp is about 28 degrees. "IF" I had chickens, fully feathered they would NOT be going out today.

It's a common sense judgment thing........

Also, you can check on them and watch how they're doing. Cold chicks will peep loudly and huddle together.

Thank you everyone. It just seems to vary with all the info here. I guess I dont have the chicken common sense yet.

Yes, I'm in upstate NY & it is freezing today!!!! Back to hauling up wood for the woodstove!!

I'm near Saratoga Springs NY - cold here too but thankfully no snow. As for the heat thing, I gave up on the thermometer and just go by how they cluster under the light - all clustered under the light, too cold. Too hot, they'll cluster away from the light. Just right? they kinda spread out or hang out near the edges of the light. I had a thermometer and they just pecked it to death.
