who wants to know?
is there a difference in meat birds and just your plain old white orpington? i've always wondered lol

Yup, white orpingtons are a breed that can be used for... Laying, eating if you wish (after they mature).. Show, and stuff like that. Meat birds are broilers, bred from cornish and white rocks i believe..

They mature fast and are butchered at around 8 weeks old.. The little chickens you buy in the grocery store are usually in the 4-5 week old range.. Some people keep them as pets as long as they have a good diet and don't get too heavy (heart attacks, breaks legs.. ) etc. Maybe one of the people who cares for them can give you more information on that..

Check feathersite if you haven't been to it yet.. It has a lot of information on "just about" every breed..
