Is there a particular breed that has a more mellow/quiet rooster?

I know that each chicken has their own personality, but have you found that a particular breed has quieter roosters?

I've heard Brahmas can be mellow.

So far, I like my Buff Orpington roo.

We have a Brahma that is very mellow (so far) and has never been aggressive towards us.

Turken and Barred Rock roos were bad news for us - very aggresive and dominant - even to the hens.

The quietest and most laid back roo we have is a bantam Cochin. He is like a sweet little stuffed doll!

I have a bunch of cockerels right now. No orp or Brahma. But I think I have australorps, RIR's, Leghorns, Maybe a Black or White rock or orp. (I got a male assortment - mistake I think) I know I have a couple of Ancona & EE's. The Anconas have to go. One started crowing at about 5 weeks, and is a little bit too dominant already.

I don't have a problem starting with a new guy.... Choosing my breed.

My Silkie rooster is also very calm and friendly. He crows a lot, though. I was told that Silkies usually did not crow as much, but mine loves to hear his own "voice."

That said, if I were you, I'd be closely considering the Australorps as keepers, looking for the best behaved roos out of that group. Probably the EE's too, just because I'm partial to the crazy colors.

Keep in mind that as you cull roos out, the pecking order changes, and the behavior of the remaining roo or roos will probably change also. Also, behavior changes as they mature more.

Good luck in finding the nicest, quietest rooster to keep out of the bunch. It's a tough decision!
