Soo... starting a backyard flock. But I'm getting muscovies :)) I was just wondering , before I decide on the size of the coop, is there a quiet breed of chicken? I'll probably stick with ducks but just out of curiosity?:)

I would say yes and no. lol
Yes, some are a bit quieter than others, but there may always be some noisy chickens, even in the quietest breeds. However, I've always felt ducks were louder that chickens? Maybe I'm wrong about that.

That said, our P RIR (especially the hens) are pretty chatty, and the roosters crow from 3 am in the morning... all- day- long. Actually, I quite like the manly sound of their crow voices. All are different.

The Partridge Cochin waited until he was 10 months old and only seems to crow in the morning, and possibly a few times during the day, and it sounds good too- deep in tone, but not piercing.

Black Copper Marans are also pretty quiet- unless you are bringing treats or someone's singing the egg song. Docile and mellow breed with beautiful dark eggs. The roosters have a loud, distinct crow, but only do it a couple of times during the day. They are such beautiful, sweet guys you'd forgive them in a second.

Old English Game Bantam hens- don't cluck like chickens. They are about as big as your hand. They make soft sounds that's hard to explain. Kind of sounds like squeaky dolphin noises. lol The male Bantams have a piercing, distinct crow that's not as loud as the large fowl, but will crow all day long. Even at a little under two lbs, our Bantam rules the roost over the much bigger chickens.

When any chicken gets worked up about something they can be loud...
