Is there a "smell" to home grown chicken meat ??

I would bet she was talking about the wet feather smell. There is a smell of blood (that coppery whang) during processing, but it is minimal.

I liken the wet feather thing to wet dog....not something I want to snuggle up with, but its just a distinctive odor. "Bad" is all perception.
 
If there was a bad smell during cooking my first thought is that the meat was spoiled.
