Is There A Vaccine for VND?

I was at Wilco yesterday and I saw a bottle of Newcastle Disease vaccine. Is this the same as what's going around in California? Does Newcastle Disease = Virulent Newcastle Disease?

Here's the vaccine I saw: https://www.jefferspet.com/products...3BGR_bz-wVfxqE33Nu6hNVKdwx_9gkZBoCqaAQAvD_BwE
I looked into it because I live near to where this is happening but I think the vaccine is a live vaccine and so your chickens actually sort of gets the disease. I wouldn’t do it unless you keep a totally closed environment for them, otherwise their feces and saliva etc. could contaminate the soil and affect the other birds that are wild and come into the area. I think there would be shedding of the virus into the environment. I am not 100% sure on this but that’s what it sounded like to me.

I don't live in CA, so I wasn't really thinking of it for my own birds (though I do keep a closed environment). I was just curious if this was the same thing.

I was thinking about it for my birds, but decided definitely against it because I do not keep a closed environment and my chickens free range in the backyard and there are many wild birds that come into my yard.

Yeah, my yard buts up against a forest, and we have lots of birds too. Especially robins. I suppose vaccinated free-rangers would potentially infect the unvaccinated wild birds.

The vaccine doesn't really work the way most people thinks it does when they think of a vaccine. There is no vaccine for the strain of vND that's going around California right now.

That's what I wanted to know. Thanks. :)
My heart goes out to those people/birds.
What a horrible tragedy.

There are, but it depends on what strain they have. Right now there is a virulent strain in southern Cali and there is no vaccine for that. People will still vaccinate their birds but this only hides the disease if it's in the bird.
