Is there a way to get your ducks to be friendly?

From the moment we got them, we have insisted on them eating from our hands. We would feed them things they could take from our hands, like strips of Romaine lettuce, from a distance and then work closer. Now, they eat everything from our hands. They LOVE cut up tomatoes. My gosh, you'd think it was ambrosia from the gods. Sliced grapes work really well. That's breakfast.

Along with hand feeding, we talk to them constantly. They always hear our voices. We greet them when we go outside with joy. We call to them. I sing in the backyard while I am working or sitting with them. We have conversations while they are eating from our hands.

Lately, I have been sitting on the ground for morning meeting and breakfast. The only one that isn't sure about that is our runner, Duckter J. I think he is still trying to figure out if that is okay with him. So he feeds at a distance, but talks to me. Sunshine and Cupcake will climb onto my legs and into my lap to eat breakfast while I am sitting on the ground. The others just get close and lay their chest on my legs while they eat. And when I show them empty hand and say "all gone", the give me a few words and waddle off for the pool or water bowls.

If our neighbors are aware of our ducks, they probably think we are comical at best. If they haven't figured it out, they probably think we are insane...
