Is there any advantage to having a rooster if I just want eggs?

That's what I was thinking, SilkieChicken. And when hens have never had a rooster, a hen generally steps into the place that a rooster would occupy. Again, just in my experience.

I got my Rooster as a Day Old baby Chick and after finding out that he was a Roo I just fell in love and so glad that we kept him and have him. He does have his own pen and free ranges during the day while the ladies have their own run. He is a great addition to the coop and family.

The roos break up fights and somewhat protect the hens. But for me, I keep roosters because it's so obvious that the hens love their roosters. They follow them around like they're rock stars. I love to watch the parades.
